CURIOUS FACTS ABOUT BULGARIA And Sliven, My Home Town

Bulgaria (in white ) and Sliven region (in orange)  in the 20th-21st c.

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe. Estabished in 681 by the Prtotobulgarians who invaded in the European lands coming from Central Asia, where were their first dwellings, Bulgaria was meant to evoke a great chain of historical events that have always been keeping the spirit of Europe and the closiest Asian countries alive, enchanting and attractive to nowadays tourists, businessmen and artists.
Bulgaria has changed its capital since it was established in the 7th c. Some of them were Pliska (the first one), Preslav, Ohrid, Veliko Tarnovo, Sofia nowadays.
Since its establishment Bulgaria suffered the fall of two yoke periods over it, by the Byzantine Empire in the 11th-12-th c. and by the Ottoman Empire since the late 14th till the 19th c.
As there were so many different fusions of culture and lifestyle inhabitants on the territory of Bulgaria, this has made Bulgarian people very tolerant, open-minded and business-oriented towards new ventures and definatelly has set the sense for holding their freedom always on top of their life as a main purpose of it.

Bulgaria is a great to feel and still cheap, as our currency is BGN, place to spend your
holiday. It is a summer and winter tourist destination, offering the Black Sea sandy beaches,
and so close to some Asian countries and still
European in its general expression country. Bulgaria is a Christian Orthodox country,
still there are lots of other religious groups on its territory, but with minor difference fot the state.

My home town Sliven has always been a place that has been giving birth of people who love traveling, being free, searching for ways to make their life economically stable and improve the life standard they have. In the first historical analyzes (you can read about this in a book by Simeon Tabakov called "An Attempt To Depict The History of Sliven"), where the name and location of Sliven is first mentioned it has been associated with a place that has attracted many tradesmen and Christian pilgrims in the time before the Byzanite yoke, as well as a place that has many travelers' paths for tradesmen to connect the town with other major trade centers.
Sliven in popular with its revolutionary-oriented and brave men born during the time of the Ottoman yoke, its windy days and nights, as the location near the chain of the Stara Planina mountain reflects in a special way on the weather as the mountain embraces the town on the North, East and West.
You can see the Ancient Tracian Fortress of Tuida, built in the 4th c. just in the suburbs of Sliven. I was working as a tourist guide there for a while in 2014 before I took the decision to start living permanently in London and come just for my holidays in Sliven. Believe me, Sliven is a great place to relax completely and recover after so many months of work  in such a highly-populated and polluted place like London or any other city with similar size in population, territory and lifestyle. The town offers many still and charming places to observe: the beautiful mountain, full of herbs and picturesque cliffs, rocky hills and deep humid forests, full of birds and some small predators. The highest peak is Balgarka (1181m). I have climbed on it in the period 2001-2003 during my secondary school years.
Sliven looks like a small village to all the people coming from big cities, I believe. However, Sliven has an old and cherished culture life, there are many festivals during the year, culture events, theathers and puppet theaters, 2D and 3D cinema halls, squash club,  saunas and sports playgrounds to explore if you visit Sliven. You can play tennis and football, ride a horse, help locals grow their crops or just see how they do this if you decide to rest in a village house or just in a tourist rural house, rather than in  a hotel or in a flat. The territory of the Region of Sliven comprises of many smaller than Sliven towns and villages located on both mountainous and valley and plane territories.
In Sliven you can play squash, go up in the mountain on foot or by the open-air lift, gather some herbs, see the Ancient Tuida Fortress, explore the local historical and ethnographic museums, see old Renaissance wooden houses from the 17th c., go fishing on the closiest Toundja River, buy lots of cheap food and clothes. Local natural food producers can offer you dairy products and lots of fruits and veggies. The best time to visit the town is from late June-late September, when all the local markets are full of fruits and vegetables and you can even collect hersb in the mountain especailly in late June and July, when they are flourishing. However, just do not cut too many of the herbs, neither cut them with the roots, as this is relly bad for the nature.
Saving the nature and protecting the flora and fauna on the territory of Sliven is a common responsibility for both citizens and guests of Sliven.
